AUTOMOTIVE SECTOR Large supply of highly qualified labour force: availability of skilled engineering staff, 33 universities on the territory of the voivodship. Technical schools of a desired profile: Wrocław Technical University - one of the best technical universities in Poland. Large number of suppliers. Large investments in the automotive sector on the territory of the voivodship: Toyota, Volvo, Volkswagen, Bosch, GKN, Wabco, Ronal, Autoliv, Faurecia, Zaklady Samochodwe Jelcz S.A., companies, which are planning investments or have concluded the construction of their plants: TBMeca, Sanden, Daicel, NSK Steering System, Voss Automotive, Industrie Maurizio Peruzzo Comfort. Large investments from the transport sector: Bombardier Transportation, Wagony Świdnica S.A. (Greenbrier Company S.A.). Low labour costs: average monthly gross remunerations: PLN 2,358.55 (country's average: PLN 2,748.11) ELECTRO-MECHANICAL SECTOR Network of potential sub-contractors and suppliers: ABB, General Electric, Alstom, Fabryka Aparatury Pomiarowej PAFAL S.A., FAREL, LEGMET, Archimedes S.A. Industrial traditions: in the 90's - Lower Silesia was a leader in terms of manufacturing white goods, Polar and Wrozamet - two largest domestic producers of household appliances. Strategic investors operating in the sector: Whirpool - annual output: refrigerators - 1 mln pieces, dish-washers - 350,000 pieces, Fagor & MCC (owner of Mastercook brand), Electrolux - construction of dish-washers plant was commenced in 2004. Large network of suppliers. Voivodsip's location on the main communication routes: good road network: international routes E40, E36, E65 and E67, developed system of railway network: international routes: E30 - connecting Germany with Ukraine and E59 connecting ports in Szczecin-Świnoujście with southern Europe, Wrocław - the largest railway junction in Poland servicing passengers and commodities, International Airport: connections with Frankfurt, Munich, London, Copenhagen, Vienna and Berlin, Transport-transit Odra river route connecting Lower Silesia with Baltic seaports - Szczecin-Świnoujście and system of inland European waterways. High unemployment: 22.2% (average rate of unemployment - 18.9%). HIGH-TECH SECTOR Large supply of skilled labour: good command of foreign languages, 17% of graduates of IT faculties come from Wroclaw, high rate of tertiary education level: 7.1% of the nation, 55% of the nation has secondary and post-secondary education. Specialized technical universities and scientific centres: Wrocław - the largest R&D centres in Poland, 130,000 students (each year 21,000 receives MA diploma). Large grouping of IT companies operating in the region: 1/3 of IT software and services sector in the country. Investors operating in the sector: Siemens ICM SDC - IT and telecommunication, Teta - carrying out IT projects for the business sector, Capgemini NearShore Center - software development centre, JTT Computer S.A. - the largest producer of hardware, Winuel, MCI Management. Traditions resulting from early technical achievements in the sector: first Polish computers in the 80's - Elwro. |
